Interposed between two systems, an optical isolator is a device so that it having undesired effects of one on the other can be prevented apart from transmitting desired signals by optical means between the systems. For both electrical systems and optical systems such as lasers, optical isolators are used. For electrical systems, an optical isolator is a very small four-terminal electronic circuit element that is an integrated package that includes a light detector, a light emitter, and, in some devices, solid-state electronic circuits. The positioning of the emitting and detecting devices is in such a way that the maximum emission from the emitter is optically coupled to the light-sensitive area of the detector. The device is also referred to as opt coupler, optoisolators, and optical-coupled isolator. In an integral opaque package, the device and fiber collimator is housed so that the only optical emission impinging on the detector is that produced by the emitter.
