Keep an eye on that little mobile of yours! That little cell phone or the MP3 player lying in your pocket, doesn't look like it's much of a power guzzler, does it? We mean, they just need an occasional recharge and most devices are good for at least for a day or two of usage. But, a recent research has shown that if the current rate of usage continues, these very gadgets might turn out to be massive overall power guzzlers in the coming decades. Even now, gadgets and computers alone consume 15 percent of all household power. It is this very figure that is seeing an unprecedented growth, according to the New Scientist. In short, what has become ubiquitous and is thought to be harmless right now might turn its head and bite us back if measures are not taken now. The study claims that by the year 2030, our gadgets could use three times more power than what they use now, if we continue at the same pace, unabated. Stopping short of sounding paranoid, the report adds that the rate of consumption could be controlled by adopting efficient power management techniques and better quality equipments and gadgets themselves. This will ensure that the gadgets would use power efficiently instead of increasing the power consumed. The study hopes that there will soon be regulations in place for charging devices, the point at which most power loss and consumption occurs.
